Delay – 5 – 24 March Camden People’s Theatre

Do It Theatre

Delay is a new performance zine that can be purchased from Camden People’s Theatre (for £2) from 5 – 24 March 2018.

Delay is a queer love story told in an 8 page zine. It is part of the Sprint Festival and a Private Play that takes place in the bar of Camden People’s Theatre (58-60 Hampstead Rd, Kings Cross, London NW1 2PY).

Delay is a story about waiting. It is love story where a person is waiting in the Camden People’s Theatre bar for their partner to arrive. It attempts to capture the moment in a relationship when you can’t decide if putting the effort in is worth it. I think it is a universal theme and an interesting one to explore in the Private Plays format. The story is from the perspective of a same sex couple, but the subject matter could apply to anyone.

Comic Book Poems Series 9 – HaHaHaHa- Lessons Learned

After previous series were published I have always done a postmortem blog post about what I was looking to achieve with the series and Comic Book Poems as a project. Now we are at Series 9 and have completed 3 years of the project. I think that this is quite an achievement.

Looking back at Series 9 we can see that all Comic Book Poems have a coherent style and approach. I think that this connects the 10 Comic Book Poems together and make them feel like a complete and cohesive series.

How Can I Depend On You_ComicBookPoems

The fact that the series is short works well. It can be digested easily and re-read again and again. They also give just as much attention to the text as they do to the illustrations. This series emphasises the importance of words in Comic Book Poems.

I think I can say I have learnt that this approach is valid and exciting in a way. Short Comic Book Poems allow for a greater degree of experimentation and I like this aspect.

Illustrating a Comic Book Poem – The Good One

The Good One_ComicBookPoems

I wanted to develop a character that had obvious shapes. I wanted the character to stand out on the page without being too loud or obtrusive. He is a basic character, but a true one. He reflects the text and looks to the future with a bright, bold style that meets the standard set by the previous Comic Book Poems in this series and the previous series.

Writing a Comic Book Poem – The Good One

The Good One_ComicBookPoems

Imagination and looking to the future. This is what I was looking to convey with this Comic Book Poem. It feels like a nice conclusion to this series. It is optimistic and passionate without being trite or didactic. It is obscure and wonderful and filled with whimsy and delight. It is a Comic Book Poem and it is hoped you enjoy The Good One.

The good one that just stares
